The central park, Penn Green, lies at the heart of the development. A formal area with an adjacent children's play area, this central plaza boasts a stunning water feature and a contemporary landscape design. In addition the 15 acre Springhead Park will run adjacently along the length of the development, providing playing fields and informal parkland and featuring a truly stunning landmark sculpture. Five critically acclaimed international artists were commissioned to create a physical artwork of great scale. The ambitions of the project were to provide a high profile marker for Ebbsfleet Valley, the Gravesham and Dartford communities and the North Kent region that will help identify Ebbsfleet Valley and Ebbsfleet International Station. In February 2009, Mark Wallinger's winning proposal for a 50 metre high white horse, standing on all four hooves at 33 times life-size won the competition to become the chosen design for the Ebbsfleet Landmark.
